What is Somatic Dance?
Moving our body to the rhythm of music is one of our most primal behaviours – we see young children doing it all the time. A song comes on, immediately their body starts to move, but not in a polished, choreographed way. The music, the beat moves through them and their movements are raw and authentic, not for the purpose of how they look, but coming from how it feels.
When we let go of the expectation of how we should move our body and instead let our body guide us from it’s own wisdom, that’s when the magic happens. We begin to open up and move through energetic blocks in the body. We connect to our pure authentic expression which feels freeing and liberating. We are deeply connected to our body which is regulating for our nervous system. Not to mention the beautiful collective energy of moving and sharing this space with others.
My intention for this space is to bring us back to the wisdom of our body and remember how it feels to connect through movement and express authentically.

What will the Dance look like?
We will begin with a somatic meditation to support you to land and drop into an embodied space. From this place, we will gradually transition into gentle, rhythmic movement in a way that supports you to connect inwardly to yourself. From this place of connection, you will be guided to express outwardly, if you choose to.
Everything is an invitation and above all, the intention is for you to remain in a space of connection which feels beautiful and yummy, whatever that may look like for you.
The music will be a journey through soft, soothing music, moving through rhythmic earthy sounds and peaking with deep tribal beats to support the energetic process.
There will be a break-out area if ever you wish to come out and have a rest sitting or lying down. Guidance will be provided throughout the dance to support you to remain in connection with yourself and your body, rather than being up in the thinking mind.
We will close with a grounding meditation to support you to integrate your experience and time to connect with each other in community.
My Story
My passion to facilitate somatic dance was born from two aspects of my healing journey:
- The support it gave me to reconnect to myself and regulate my nervous system whilst in a freeze survival response. Somatic movement was incredibly helpful in offering access into my soma (body) and became an amazing addition to the somatic approaches I was already familiar with.
- Being absolutely terrified to move my body freely and dance in front of others without the use of alcohol and substances. Since this time, I have moved through a deep journey of healing layers of shame which has gradually allowed me to open up more and more through movement. Now, when I move and dance, I experience an intensely deep connection to myself which feels so blissful and liberating – the total opposite to before!
Coming from this background, my passion is to guide others through a journey of connecting through movement in a way that feels really comfortable and enjoyable. As with all of the work we offer at SomaRising, the first step to connection is always safety. My intention is to hold a safe and supportive container where you feel comfortable to move in a way that feels right for you, with no expectations to look or be a certain way.
I look forward to seeing you there for an evening of bliss and fun!
